Coming up in Monday’s microbusiness weekly news

It’s Friday and I’m gearing up to spend my weekend writing, so I thought I’d cruise though here to let you know about the stories I’m working on for next week’s MicroEnterprise Journal.
Maybe you’re not feeling regulated enough? That nightmare data security bill from the 110th Congress, which fortunately got no further than the House Commerce Committee, is back. This version doesn’t look quite as bad as last year’s version but the prognosis still may not be good for microbusinesses if the thing is passed as is. I’ll cover what the bill says and what it means and our last hope for salvation, if the thing gets passed.
Budget ballet begins. President Obama has released the long-awaited detailed budget and reaction is here, there and everywhere. As far as federal small business spending, there is good news and bad news. I’ll be writing about whose funding is proposed for getting hiked, whose funding Obama wants to cut and what lawmakers are likely to do to this funding proposal before it returns to the President’s desk.
Mortgage reform helps micros? The House has just passed mortgage reform legislation and that may matter a lot to microbusiness owners because so many are forced to turn to the equity in their homes to finance their firms — because, of course, access to commercial capital is a perpetual headache for us. Does the new reform mean help for current holders of so-called “toxic” mortgages or simply try to head off future problems? And will what’s here keep microbusiness mortgage holders from having to shut their doors? I’ll be taking a look.
I’d preview my Policy Matters column but I rarely know what I’m going to write about until about fifteen minutes before I write it.
Meanwhile, Happy Mother’s Day to my fellow moms out there and have a good weekend all (whether your a mom or not).
