If only it could be that easy. But, you're right; the more I look at this, the more I think that the best thing Congress could do would be to do nothing. No taxpayer "rescue" of the Wall Street titans that caused this mess. The market needs an opportunity to correct itself from its artificially inflated state. The people of this country need to learn to live within their means again. As you said, it'll be painful but I think it'll make the economy stronger and more sustainable in the long run. “My sincere hope is that the idiots (of both stripes) in Washington just keep running around until they knock themselves unconscious and wake up to find it’s 2009.”

Small businesses across the country (and around the world) are going to keep doing what they've been doing. I didn't even know what "commercial paper" was until last week, but I can see why it's at the heart of the current mess. If you've been able to operate your business without the weekly call to your local FHLBank member to get your "fix", then all you have to do is - keep on keepin' on!
