Just don’t ask him what he’s wearing

Interested in getting about as up-close-and-personal as you’re ever likely to get with the current Chairman of the Senate Small Business Committee?

Senator John Kerry (D-MA) will grace the ether with his presence tomorrow at a web chat hosted by Slate. You can submit questions here and show up to see if they get answered and, if they do, how they get answered. Or you can simply lurk and make bets with yourself about whether the good Senator is doing his own typing.

Here’s the advisory, as it landed in my inbox yesterday:

Tomorrow, Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), Chairman of the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, will participate in a live web chat on Slate.com. Kerry will be available to answer questions from America’s entrepreneurs beginning at 2 p.m. for about 30 minutes.

To read the discussion online or submit questions for Sen. Kerry, visit http://bizbox.slate.com/.

WHAT: Sen. Kerry Participates in Live Web Chat on Slate.com

WHEN: Thursday, August 2nd beginning at 2:00 p.m. Eastern

WHERE: http://bizbox.slate.com/

When it’s over, stop back by here and leave a comment to share your thoughts about what Mr. Senator had to say for himself.

You know, non-Java chats (that is, the kind that don’t scroll) aren’t as much fun even if they are much more orderly.

We still don’t know if Senator Kerry does his own typing because of that. As a matter of fact, when I read his responses, it didn’t even really sound like him. It sounded more like members of his staff I’ve had dealings with – in terms of language choice and what not.

And given then lack of typos in the responses, I’m guessing that whoever was answering the questions is much more used to typing than I suspect Senator Kerry would be.

You know, it would be really nice if some of these politicians — especially the high-profile ones — would use this interactive medium to get truly interactive with citizens in those unscripted and much more interesting ways.

But then, this is politicians were talking about. I guess I should avoid setting unrealistic expectations.
